Murchison falls national park Uganda

Murchison Falls National Park covers an area of 3,840-sq km with altitude of 619m at the delta and 1,292 at Rabongo Hill. The mean temperature is 29 ° and 21°C-low C-high. The park is a protected area where by theres bugungu and karuma wildlife reserves. Murchison Falls National Park derives its name from the Murchison falls where the mighty River Nile explodes through a narrow gorge and flows down to become a placid river whose banks are thronged with hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks and bufalloes. The vegetation is characterised by Savannah, riverine forest and woodland.
It has recorded 76 mammal species eg lions,chimpanzees and 450 bird species eg the rare shoebill and is known to be the biggest national park in Uganda.
The park can be accessed by either road or Air

By road: from Kampala through Masindi (via Kichumbanyobo gate), Paraa is a 4 and a half hours drive, 2 hours on tarmac and 2 and half hours on Murram roads.

By Air: Bugungu airfield is situated only a few kilometers from the park headquarters at Paraa on the Southern side of the River Nile to cater for the tourists staying at Nile Safari Camp, the Red Chili Rest Camp and Sambiya River Lodge. There is also Pakuba airfield which is situated on the North bank providing access to Paraa Lodge.
