high fuel prices affect Tour Operators in Uganda

The rising dollar rate and increasing fuel prices have taken their toll on the Uganda tour operators and hotel owners in the tourism industry. According to Boniface Byamukama, the chairman of the Association of Tour Operators in the country, operational costs are taking up a bigger share of their profits.

“We are digging deeper into our pockets to avail the range of products and services given in our quotations to various agencies all over the world,” said Byamukama. “Rwanda uses the same entry route with Uganda to import fuel. It is a surprise that fuel is much cheaper than what is available here,” he added.

Uganda tour operators take tourists to different safari destinations in the country for game drives, gorilla tracking, chimpanzee tracking, nature/forest walks, river Nile activities, mountaineering trips, cultural tours, birding trips among many others.
